Posted 9. December 2007:
A few weeks ago I got a surprise email from the American, the Maverick in July I 2006 have sold.
Translation of the mail:
Hello John,
I want to let you know once, what all happened in the meantime. Maverick is just out of water, the hull is made new, and they also got a new rudder (the old one had a lot of electrolysis on the shaft and had to be replaced).
I'm slowly getting older and that makes sailing more dangerous. Someone made me an offer for Maverick and so I sold it yesterday.
The new owner has since repaired the sagging deck and a longer boom support mounted. Currently he is working in some other stuff, for they soon get into the water and sail to the Bahamas and in other areas.
He will probably sail more than I. He pays close attention, that everything is in detail in the best condition. I think Maverick a really good new owner has been found and will be sailed in the next few years more.
Maverick is so sold. On one hand I was initially a little sad, because I knew it in good hands. But it seems, Maverick is also the new owners continue to be in good hands. He has already invested a lot of work into it, I learned today in a second mail:
The problem with the rudder seems to have been in the shaft. In addition, there was probably a problem with the keel extension, you've grown. She had to be removed. The new color of the underwater hull is blue. The new owner also has all the paint layers of the hull removed (I would have left them to it). He retains the name "Maverick" and the new home port is St. Marys, Georgia.
Nice to read, Maverick seems that getting a complete overhaul. Back then it was not easy for me to have been, the boat is so easy to sell, just after I 11 Have lived for months on board and stood with her through many adventures. But it's a comforting feeling, that my old girl is still doing well.
Here are some photos of the renovation work:
Maverick in the U.S. after the sale. It can be seen, that the new owner was better equipped than I to American temperatures and easy, as is common in the USA, air conditioning has put on the pre-Lukan. Also, a new Mainsail and recognize that the wind turbine mast is gone.
Maverick high and dry. I knew, that the underwater vessel on the 1.000 Intracoastal miles one is covered quite well, But SO Doll? Wow…
The keel extension, here to recognize good. I have no idea, why it is blue, I had it painted with red anti-fouling. You may already be some chemical to the paint applied to the statements shall, because the current owner (the second owner after me) has removed the keel extension. The reason I do not know.
Good to see: My emergency repairs at the helm, has begun on the Atlantic, to dissolve in two parts. I've at least removed the upper part of his sand filling, filled with epoxy and top with some mats zulaminiert. It has held.
Maverick with new underwater paint. Great to see, that the new owners really work and effort invested in the boat. More of it can be seen on the next photo:
The new owner has actually a new rudder (!) Maverick can build for, because the old rudder was already badly corroded at the. Exact readers remember, I already at St. Lucia in the Caribbean have some rust holes allow welding together. A new rudder was definitely the best decision.
More information to follow, as soon as I learn new.
